Steve Maltz – How the Church Lost the Way

How the Church Lost its WayBook Review:
Renewing the Way

An insightful look at the evolution of the early followers of Yeshua into what we know today as the “church”. Steve Maltz explains how the seeds of Greek thought have grown and flourished unknown inside the church and even today are bearing forbidden fruit. Frankly, the book is a sobering reminder of how far we have fallen away from the “faith once delivered”.

Even if you don’t agree with the author’s perspective on the erosion of the original faith the book is worth buying for the author’s insights into the importance of the nuclear family. Having five children (ages 7-19) Win and I have seen first hand the blessings of the advice outlined in Mr. Maltz’s book. If we as believers in Yeshua really want to make a difference in this world it starts in our homes by raising children who honor their Creator.

The author also mentioned an underlying theme of Jew and Gentile becoming “one new man” because of the reconciliation offered to us by the blood of Yeshua.

“Ephesians 2:13,14,15 3 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. 14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; 15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;”

Personally, I think this verse has more significance than many realize. In the first chapter of the first book of the New Testament, Matthew arranges the lineage of Jesus in 14, 14, 14 generations. For centuries scholars have argued about the reason Matthew left out 4 kings from the list. If you count the names as given (not as arranged) you will find there are 14, 14, 13 generations. Yeshua is the 13th generation and upon his death and resurrection becomes the 14th as well.

How appropriate then that during the 2nd temple era when Yeshua walked this earth, the “middle wall of partition” in the Temple which separated Jews from Gentiles, was access by 14 steps and entry to the temple proper granted by one of 13 gates. Truly it was the blood of Yeshua which made both Jews and Gentiles “one new man”.
